Traffic Signal Installation Project Begins on Gantzel Road at Painted Desert Drive

painted-desert

A new traffic signal installation project is set to commence on Gantzel Road at the Painted Desert Drive intersection starting Tuesday, May 30, 2023. The project, which will run through January 1, 2024, is expected to cause some disruption to normal traffic patterns and commuters are being asked to plan for potential delays.

The day work project, which will install a traffic signal at the intersection, will result in a speed reduction and lane closure for both northbound and southbound travel. The Pinal County Public Works Department is urging motorists to allow extra time on their commute as the work may cause delays. They are also urging drivers to use caution while driving through the work zones.

The project aims to accommodate future through and right turn lanes on the East side of Gantzel Road, with lane restrictions anticipated. The construction project is broken down into several key milestones:

  • May 30, 2023: Begin construction on the East side of Gantzel Road.
  • Aug 14, 2023: SRP to relocate power poles on the South West corner of Gantzel Road.
  • Dec 29, 2023: Project Completion

The project is funded through a mix of developer contribution fees ($325K), highway uses revenue funds ($600K), and impact fees ($800K).

This infrastructure project forms part of the ongoing development and enhancement of traffic systems in the region. The Pinal County Public Works Department, in line with its commitment to ensuring efficient and safe traffic movement, continues to monitor and improve the traffic systems and roadways within the county.

Residents and commuters are asked to follow posted signage and remain patient during the construction period. Your cooperation ensures the safety of construction workers and helps to minimize disruptions to traffic flow.
