San Tan Valley finally has a local state legislator

At this morning's Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board appointed a new Representative for Legislative District 8.

San Tan Valley resident, Neal Carter was appointed to District 8 following the recent passing of Frank Pratt and will serve out the remainder of Pratt's term until the end of 2022.

District 8 encompasses a large portion of San Tan Valley as well as the majority of Pinal County and a portion of Gila County.

Board of Supervisors Chairman Stephen Miller commented on the selections, "I want to thank all six candidates we interviewed for putting themselves forward, it was a highly competitive process, and all six candidates presented well. Congratulations to (both) Neal (and Teresa), and we look forward to working with and supporting them in any way that we can in their new roles."

Neal Carter has been a resident of San Tan Valley since 2010.  Carter works in the private sector for Nuix, a tech company offering document management software. He is licensed as a lawyer in Arizona, holding a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law and a B.A. from UCLA. Neal's extensive local community involvement includes acting as general counsel for both the Pinal County Republican Committee and for the San Tan Valley Advisory Council.

Additionally, Neal volunteers with Compassion Queen Creek, as well as for veterans organizations, Pinal County's 'Adopt-a-Road' program, and with his church, including at the prisons in Florence.

Neal Carter said of his appointment, "I am humbled to step into the shoes of the late Frank Pratt, shoes which really can't be filled. Thank you to the Board of Supervisors for their vote of confidence. Serving as your state representative is a position of sacred trust, and it is my commitment to serve the people of District 8 with as much diligence as I can to live up to that trust."

Also at today's Board of Supervisor's meeting, Teresa Martinez was appointed to District 11 following the resignation of Bret Roberts at the end of September and will serve out the remainder of Roberts' term until the end of 2022.

District 11 covers the City of Maricopa, parts of Casa Grande, as well as Arizona City, Red Rock, Marana, and Saddlebrooke, plus areas into Pima County, north of Tucson.

House Speaker Rusty Bowers today welcomed Neal Carter of Legislative District 8 and Teresa Martinez of Legislative District 11 to the Arizona House of Representatives as the newest Republican members of the 55th Legislature.

"It's my pleasure to welcome Neal Carter and Teresa Martinez to the Arizona House of Representatives and into our House family," said Speaker Bowers. "Both bring tremendous experience and leadership which will help the Republican Majority advance good public policy in the upcoming session for the residents of Legislative Districts 8 and 11, and for all of Arizona."
